Phil Vassar

Born in Lynchburg, VA , Vassar grew up with a strong inclination towards sports. In fact, he credits sports for teaching him the discipline and focus he needed later in life to become successful in his music career. He was a quarterback in high school and also began running track, which eventually led to an athletic scholarship to James Madison University.

With musical influences and favorites as diverse as Steve Wariner, Billy Joel, James Taylor, and Elton John, Vassar moved to Nashville in 1987 to pursue his music career. Once there, Vassar began focusing on his songwriting and developing as a piano player. He began performing in local restaurants and clubs. In 1995, Vassar bought the restaurant and club where he had been performing, providing the perfect situation to try out his new songs and develop his style as an entertainer.

Fast forward to his debut single "Carlene", a hit at radio that was inspired by a show he saw about Cindy Crawford, who was valedictorian of her high school class and also attended Northwestern before becoming a supermodel.

Vassar co-wrote all eleven songs on his self-titled debut disc, "Phil Vassar," which was released on February 22, 2000, which he co-produced with Byron Gallimore.

Media was quick to acknowledge the long awaited debut by this artist, including Country Mailbag, Billboard, Country Weekly, Country Music, CMT, and others. As for Vassar, success couldn't have come at a better time!
