Alecia
Elliott
I'm
Diggin' It One of the great joys of entertainment is being inspired
by true talent. In turn, talent is especially moving and enduring
when it's natural. In a time when musical artists and audiences
are connecting ot an earlier age, Alecia Elliott offers a gift
that goes way beyond a talented teen with a big voice.
Born
in the musical town and tradition of Muscle Shoals, Alabama
on Christmas Day 1982, this sixteen- year-old showed her love
for singing almost immediately. By the time she turned eight,
Alecia knew that she was destined to be an entertainer.
At
age nine, Alecia got the chance of a lifetime, when Lorrie Morgan
heard a tape of Alecia and invited her to perform a concert
duet. By the time she was eleven, standing ovations at Buddy
Killen's Stockyard were the norm for Alecia. Her outstanding
performances were rewarded by an invitation to sing at the 1995
Grand Ole Opry Inaugural Concert for Governor Don Sundquist.
Alecia has toured Europe, sung beneath the National Christmas
Tree on the White House Lawn and performed at a variety of music
festivals and concert venues across America. She has taken the
stage with a list of artists that include: Pam Tillis, Brenda
Lee, Loretta Lynn, Billy Ray Cyrus, Lari White, Shenandoah,
Collin Raye, Joe Diffie, Wade Hayes and Bebe & Cece Winans.
It
didn't take long for Alecia to make her way to Nashville to
meet with MCA Chairman Bruce Hinton. At the time, Bruce agreed
that 12-year-old Alecia showed great talent, but that she needed
a little more life experience before making a career in the
music business. He told Alecia to come back in a few years,
hoping some other label would not snatch her up and take advantage
of her youth. But surprisingly, Alecia held out for MCA and
showed up on the label's doorstep three years later as requested.
MCA immediately signed her to a deal and began work on her first
album.
Produced
by Tony Brown and Jeff Teague, Alecia's debut album was recorded
in Nashville at the Sound Emporium and completed in May 1999.
The album contains eleven songs including two songs co- written
by Alecia, "I'm Waiting For You" and " You Wonna
What?" Other stand-outs include the first single and the
title track, "l'm Diggin' It," which was released
to radio September'99, and `Some People Fall Some People Fly,"
which was written and previously recorded by Matraca Berg with
Randy Scruggs. Scheduled for release in January 2000, Alecia
has recorded an album filled with soul beyond her years, one
that will no doubt appeal to music lovers of all ages.
NEW
TEEN COUNTRY SENSATION ALECIA ELLIOTT
TO GUEST STAR IN EPISODE OF MALIBU, CA
Nashville,
Tennessee, Nov. 29, 1999 - MCA Nashville recording artist
Alecia Elliott is not content to just sit back and watch her
debut single, "I'm Diggin' It" make its way up the
country singles and sales charts. She doesn't relax when told
her video remains for the eighth week on CMT's "most requested"
list. Nor is she patiently anticipating the January 2000 release
of her first album. Sixteen-year-old Alecia Elliott wants more,
and she's getting more!
Backed
by her label and booking agency CAA, Elliott is exploring all
the options available to her. One such option included a meeting
with the television producer Peter Engel, known for creating
the popular weekly teen shows Saved By The Bell, Hang Time
and USA High. Engel was so impressed by Elliott, he offered
her the opportunity to star in an episode of Malibu, CA in which
she will play herself and perform her single. Malibu, CA centers
around characters Scott and Jason Collins, fraternal twin brothers
who have recently moved from New York City to the sundrenched
beaches of Malibu, California. This series, which is in its
second season and is syndicated to markets covering over 90%
of the country, was co-created and is co-executive produced
by Carl Kurlander (St. Elmo Fire).
Elliott
will travel in December from her home in Muscle Shoals, Alabama
to Los Angeles to tape the episode of Malibu, CA. While in LA,
she will take pan in a fashion show benefiting LA Shanti, a
non-profit organization dedicated to educating people about
and assisting victims of HIV and AIDS. She will model clothes
designed by West Coast designer and event-honoree Charles Lapson
and perform the dance- remix of "I'm Diggin' It" during
the after party. While in Los Angeles, Elliott will also make
time to meet with professional songwriters and work on her writing
skills. (Two cuts on the current project were co-written by
Eliott).
What
else can Alecia Elliott squeeze inot her schedule during the
month of December? How about celebrating her 17th birthday -
which just happens to be on Christmas Day!
